LDE NL Space Campus Summer School – Day 5

Welcome to day 5 of the LDE NL Space Campus Summer School! Today the students went back to the NL Space Campus to visit the EUSPA Galileo Reference Centre! After this they went to Unmanned Valley, while is all about uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs), better known as drones!

Galileo Reference Centre

A EUSPA service facility, located in Noordwijk, the Netherlands, the Galileo Reference Centre (GRC) performs independent service performance monitoring and reporting, service performance investigation and support, and campaign-based monitoring and experimentation, by itself and through cooperation with the EU Member States, Norway, and Switzerland. The GRC monitors not only Galileo but also other GNSSs and reports to various stakeholders.

The scope of the GRC Infrastructure Evolution, Nominal Operations Support, and Maintenance Framework Contract is to provide a turn-key service for GRC infrastructure releases (including operational validation activities), support the nominal operations, and follow up with the maintenance of the release in operation. It will include the design and implement an innovative solution for the next generation of the GRC. This will also include implementing a real-time solution into the GRC that will be capable of providing real-time monitoring of all Galileo services, precise reference time, and PRS navigation monitoring functionalities.

Unmanned Valley

From combating moths in greenhouse horticulture to detecting the beginnings of dune and heather infestation, sensor technology is already being used in numerous places.

With the further development and integration of robotisation, artificial intelligence, big data, machine learning and the Internet of Things, the number of useful applications is rapidly increasing.

For everyone – from composite developers and robotics manufacturers to companies in the field of artificial intelligence, service providers and end users – it is important that technologies and applications can be tested. Preferably close to where the research and development takes place.

Located in Katwijk, South Holland, Unmanned Valley is a field lab for sensor technologies and applications.
