LDE NL Space Campus Summer School – Day 6

LDE NL Space Campus Summer School – Day 6

Today is already the last day of the LDE NL Space Campus Summer School in the Netherlands! Today the teams visited Decos and then presented their team projects at the Space Business Innovation Centre, both located at the NL Space Campus in Noordwijk. Our participant-reporter Miraslava Kazlouskaya explains:

Decos

The day started at Decos, a software company based in a futuristic ‘spaceship’ in the middle of a Mars Yard at the NL Space Campus. Here they met the office robot (and the two friendly office dogs), at the fully paperless company.

Decos is not your average company. People working at Decos have the freedom to create and plan their own work. They have the space to come up with the best solutions. Decos uses an agile approach and cultivate a spirit of entrepreneurship. Together, employees decide on company goals and how to achieve them.

  • Every solution is developed in close collaboration with clients
  • Decos has no managers. Everybody is responsible
  • Employees decide when they take their vacation
  • The office is 100% climate neutral
  • The company vehicle fleet is fully-electric
  • The office is 100% paperless
  • The office has its own Mars Yard

Final Presentations at SBIC

At the end of the day each of the teams presented the results of their team project to a panel of experts and investors at the Space Business Innovation Centre (SBIC), also on NL Space Campus.

At the end of the day, at the end of their mission, all summer school crew members received their honourable mission patch, to remind them that they are now ready for their careers in the Dutch, European and global space industry!

Congratulations to all LDE NL Space Campus Summer School 2022 graduates!

About SBIC

Space exploration is not only a curiosity-driven endeavour. ‘Space’ has also given us many useful applications right here on earth. We can hardly imagine our lives anymore without satellite navigation in our cars, satellite TV in our homes, and location-based apps on our phones. Space is also responsible for innovations such as LED lighting, solar panels and freeze-dried food. And we have learned many valuable lessons by observing our own planet from space, with the help of earth observation satellites.

SBIC believes that ‘space’ is not being used to its maximum potential – especially by small businesses and start-ups. There is a need for start-up hubs for the space industry. That is why the Space Business Innovation Centre Noordwijk supports entrepreneurs and start-ups that want to launch or improve a product or service that makes use of space technology. Think of an agriculture app that uses satellite data to inform farmers, or a product developer that uses space-grade technology to store medication. Now that’s #downtoearth!

SBIC provides a solid base – a foundation – for these companies. It is an innovative hub, containing everything a start-up needs, so they can focus on what matters: building an impactful business!
