Huge amounts of data from space, the kind produced by the European Earth observation programme Copernicus and its fleet of Sentinel satellites, offer countless opportunities in connection with mobile applications. The Space App Camp 2020 bring programmers together to develop creative and innovative apps that make Earth observation data – particularly from Copernicus – accessible to a wide range of citizens. This unique one-week event was initiated by ESA in 2012. AZO and RAMANI have been organising the annual ESA Space App Camp to help mobile developers utilise Copernicus data and services to enrich their mobile apps. RAMANI’s Maps-API was borne out of the desire to extend the existing data access types with enhanced semantics to make the use of Copernicus Services data easier. This helps to foster new business opportunities for potential new downstream service providers.
