Towards Zero Hunger: New Online Course Strengthens Global Efforts Against Hunger

EO College proudly announces the launch of “Towards Zero Hunger”, a free and modular online course designed to address one of the world’s most pressing challenges: hunger. Aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 2 (Zero Hunger), this course equips learners worldwide with essential knowledge and practical skills to advance food security using Earth Observation (EO) data.
With nearly 1 in 10 people experiencing hunger worldwide, and growing challenges posed by conflict, climate change, and inequality, urgent action is needed.
Key Highlights of the Course:
- Flexible Learning Path: Select modules tailored to your interests and expertise in sustainable development, food security, and EO applications.
- Hands-On Tutorials: Apply EO data through practical exercises in monitoring agriculture, land use, and food systems.
- Expert-Led Content: Learn from researchers at Friedrich Schiller University Jena, Ruhr University Bochum, and other leading institutions.
- Global Collaboration: Developed with contributions from organisations such as ESA, NASA ARSET, CEOS, and the University of Bonn, the course offers insights from top EO and food security experts.
“Towards Zero Hunger” is a call to action for individuals and professionals who want to drive positive change and contribute to global food security.
“We all have a role to play in achieving Zero Hunger. This course is designed to make actionable knowledge widely accessible,” says Dr. Nesrin Salepci, one of the course developers.
