High-resolution optical satellite data will remain available in the Netherlands for at least the next three years. A new contract has been signed for the acquisition of optical satellite imagery, ensuring continued access via the Satellietdataportaal.
The contract follows the confirmation of national space policy funding and covers data delivery starting 1 February 2026. Access is guaranteed until January 2029, with an option to extend availability up to 2032.
What this means for users
- Continued access to high-resolution optical satellite imagery
- A new data portfolio, including six nationwide acquisitions
- Greater predictability for research, public-sector use, and operational applications that rely on optical Earth observation data
The extended availability supports long-term projects and reduces uncertainty for organisations integrating satellite imagery into their workflows.

From data to application
The Satellietdataportaal also features user stories that show how optical satellite data is applied in practice, highlighting concrete use cases and insights across different domains.
