Groundstation.space joins the FIERCE project as Innovation Intermediary to support SMEs in using space data for sustainability

Groundstation.space is joining the EU-funded FIERCE project as one of its Innovation Intermediaries. FIERCE focuses on helping European SMEs explore and adopt space data solutions that support sustainability and operational efficiency. The initiative invests €2.5 million in companies working with satellite data, from early exploration to more advanced development.

About FIERCE

FIERCE is designed to make the use of satellite-based information more accessible for SMEs across Europe. It provides structured support for organisations that want to introduce environmental applications of space data into their products, services or operations.

Our role as Innovation Intermediary

As part of the project, Groundstation.space will introduce FIERCE opportunities to organisations in our network and help clarify where satellite data can be applied in practical business contexts. This includes sharing information about open programmes, upcoming calls, and sector-relevant use cases.

Support available for SMEs

FIERCE offers two main tracks. The Advisory Services Programme is already open and supports SMEs in exploring how space data could address their technical or business needs. The Financial Support Programme will open in January 2026 and will provide up to €50,000 for developing or testing space-enabled environmental solutions.

What this means for our ecosystem

Through our involvement in FIERCE, Groundstation.space will help local companies navigate the available support, understand relevant applications, and connect with the broader downstream innovation community. This work aligns with our ongoing efforts to make satellite data more accessible for sustainability-focused initiatives.

More updates about FIERCE activities, calls and events will be shared on Groundstation.space. Organisations with questions can contact martijn.seijger@groundstation.space.
