SKIES ONDA workshop replay now available

In June this year the SKIES project team organised an in-depth training workshop for the use of the ONDA platform, one of the official Copernicus DIAS (Data and Information Access Systems) platforms.

This workshop has now been published online and can be watched here:

Some of the learnings in this webinar include:

Sentinel-5P data

Sentinel 5P is the first Copernicus mission dedicated to monitoring our atmosphere. Launched in October 2017, this satellite provides routines observations of atmospheric trace gases and aerosols products serving air quality, climate and stratospheric ozone applications. Its high spatial resolution of 7×7 km2 allows sampling of small-scale variabilities in the lower troposphere. The ESA Atmospheric Toolbox in ONDA DIAS supports end users in extraction, visualisation and analysis of products coming from Sentinel-5P. HARP tools were used to transform TROPOMI data into so-called Level-3 data using Python functions.

ONDA for air pollution monitoring

Nitrogen dioxide is released into the atmosphere during fuel combustion from vehicles, power plants, and industrial facilities and can have significant impacts on human health – increasing the likelihood of
developing respiratory problems. The COVID19 lockdowns led to large reductions in levels of air pollution, which has sparked a large number of scientific studies using the TROPOMI NO2 observations. Sentinel-5P dataset, in particular has been facilitating scientific studies covering the period 2018-2021.
