New EU Global Action on Space

The EU Global Action on Space is a new initiative of the European Commission that will provide many opportunities for stakeholders, companies and industry actors from around the world.

They will be able to learn more about the EU Space Programme and its benefits in regional contexts, take part in business coaching activities and increase cooperation between EU and non-EU companies. Additionally, they will gain insights on the global space ecosystem and have the opportunity to attend webinars, events and study visits adapted to each region.

What is the EU Global Action on Space? 

The EU Global Action on Space is a new initiative of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Defence Industry and Space (DG DEFIS) which aims to promote the EU Space Programme and its flagship components Copernicus, Galileo and EGNOS worldwide, as well as foster collaboration between the EU and global space and non-space sectors throughout the value chain. 

“The EU Global Action on Space is a unique opportunity for European and non-European actors and stakeholders to increase cooperation, push forward digitalisation and take advantage of the socio-economic benefits that the EU Space programme has to offer” highlights Jolanda Van Eijndthoven, Head of Unit B.3 ‘International Relations and Communication’ at DG DEFIS, calling for all “to make the most out of the opportunities offered by the EU Global Action on Space”.

The Global Action is made up of three main elements covering different needs and stakeholders, including business coaching, market intelligence and events and outreach.

Business coaching: creating opportunities for cooperation around the world

The EU Global Action on Space gives you access to a global network of experts that will provide direct support to grow your business. In total, 85 experts from more than 45 countries will provide space-related technical advice as well as business advice, such as on intercultural, legal or administrative aspects.

More concretely, selected companies will have the opportunity to take part in tailored networking events to find the perfect international partner and participate in dedicated webinars that will help participants develop successful and sustainable international partnerships. Furthermore, they will receive coaching from the Action’s pool of international experts with the end goal of signing an international cooperation agreement.

Market Insights: furthering knowledge of space ecosystems around the world

The EU Global Action on Space enables your company to gain market insights otherwise difficult to access, helping you better understand space ecosystems around the world. Indeed, a growing number of commercial activities belonging to disruptive and emerging market segments rely on space-based services to deliver high-quality products to their customers.

For example, positioning data from Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) is enabling the widespread use of autonomous vehicles and commercial drones, among others. While Earth Observation (EO) data is being used to train Artificial Intelligence and develop the next generation of algorithms.
