Please note that this is an EARSC members ONLY EOcafe, in case you’re an EARSC member and want to join please contact francesco.casaril@earsc.org
The European Commission plays a pivotal role in shaping policy frameworks that influence industries across Europe, including the EO industry. 2024 has been an especially important year for EU policy due to the European Parliamentary elections and change in the European Commission, but what does this mean? And how does it work?
At this crucial crossroads, this “members-only” closed EOcafe will provide EARSC members with a clear understanding of the structure of the European Union (EU), how policies are developed, and what the recent changes in the European Commission might mean for the future direction of EU policy.
The discussion will explore how shifts in leadership and priorities may affect regulations, funding, and innovation, with a focus on the defence, space, climate and environment portfolios.
Understanding the essentials of the policymaking process, stakeholders involved and links between national and international stakeholders/policy frameworks is crucial to understanding potential future business and funding opportunities, the impact of regulations on the EO sector, and which stakeholders are key for influencing these different priorities.
Simultaneously, the shift following the European Parliamentary elections that will see the formation of a new Commission brings both challenges and opportunities, and changes in leadership may affect policy priorities, funding, and innovation.
Join our host Geoff Sawyer (EARSC Strategic Advisor and former Secretary General), Cristian Bulumac (Policy Advisor ITRE, Greens/EFA Group in the European Parliament) and Michelle Hermes (EARSC Policy Officer) next Thursday for this closed EOcafe as they explore the essentials of the EU policy process and the potential implications of the changes at the European Commission level.
Some questions that could be addressed during this EOcafe include:
- How does EU policy work and what are the key aspects of the EU legislative process?
- What is the function of the European Commission within the EU legislative process? How does the European Commission shape policy and funding priorities?
- What does the change of EU Commissioners mean for the EO industry?
- What are the foreseen key priorities for the defence and space domains for the next 5-year period?
- What are the foreseen key priorities for the environmental and climate domains for the next 5-year period?
- What are the next steps and what can we expect in terms of timeline for this process?
- What should EARSC members be particularly aware of moving forward?
Registration: The webinar is open to EARSC MEMBERS ONLY. Registration is free but compulsory.
