Equality, Diversity and Inclusion survey for the EU Defence industry, Aeronautics and Space sectors
The EU Charter of Fundamental Rights and the EU Treaties establish equality and non-discrimination as fundamental values of the European Union. The European Commission, and the Directorate-General for Defence Industry and Space (DG Defis) in particular, are actively contributing to the delivery of concrete initiatives promoting Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (ED&I) aiming to ensure that people are not discriminated based on sex, racial or ethnic origin, religion or belief, disability, age or sexual orientation.
The purpose of this survey is to provide evidence on:
- The status quo, including having the first comprehensive demographic statistics of the defence industry, aeronautics and space, including the current status quo on ED&I in all its dimensions (sex, ethnic origin, age, disability, sexual orientation, religion or belief).
- Baseline data to inform and support the European Commission and DG Defis work on ED&I in Defence Industry, Aeronautics and Space sectors.
- The promotion of European values (Equality, Diversity and Inclusion) among the defence industry, aeronautics and space sectors.
The survey is aimed at:
The European industrial ecosystem involving defence industry, aeronautics and space, including its workforce in public, private and research sectors. As long as your work is related to the defence industry, aeronautics and space sectors in Europe in some way, you are welcome and encouraged to take part.
This important study will map out the current status quo on equality, diversity, and inclusion in the industry in the EU in all its dimensions. Most questions are closed questions that are quick and easy to answer. It will take between 15-20 minutes to pass the survey. It is open for your replies until 30 June.
The results of this survey will provide baseline data that will feed into the EU policies and shape the future strategies for this sector. This initiative is part of the Union of Equality priority.

Equality is a core value of the European Union. Having sector-specific equality data will allow for better design, monitoring, adaptation, and evaluation of EU sectoral policies targeting equality. The data collected under this survey will allow the development of targeted and aligned actions in the European defence industry, aeronautics, and space sectors.
