Young researchers invited to join the 2026 Ecoview competition

Students aged 14 to 18 are invited to develop an environmental research project using satellite data for the 2026 International Competition of Ecological Projects “Ecoview”. Registration and project submissions are open until 31 October 2026.
The Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (JASU) is inviting young researchers from around the world to take part in the 2026 International Competition “Ecoview”. The competition is free of charge, takes place entirely online and is conducted in English.
Ecoview is open to individual participants aged 14 to 18 and focuses on Ecology, Geography and related disciplines. Participants develop their own research project examining an environmental issue of their choice, with one central requirement: remote sensing data, such as satellite imagery, must form part of the research.
Participants can choose the environmental issue, geographical area, research scale, materials and tools they want to work with. Projects could, for example, examine changes in forests, oceans, the atmosphere or local environments and use Earth observation data to investigate how these areas have changed over time.
Learn to work with Earth observation data
Alongside the competition, participants have access to training materials designed to introduce them to ecology, Earth observation and the practical use of satellite imagery.
Through their projects, students can develop skills in finding and analysing environmental information, interpreting satellite images and applying remote sensing data to scientific research.
Resources include a Participant’s Guide and an online course covering the basics of ecology and Earth observation. The organisers will also hold an introductory webinar in September for participants and their supervisors, covering the competition guidelines, project requirements and tools and methods for working with satellite data.
How the competition works
The 2026 competition consists of three stages:
Stage 1: Registration and project submission, until 31 October
Participants register for the competition and prepare an individual research project on an environmental topic using remote sensing data. Projects and accompanying media files must be submitted according to the competition requirements.
Stage 2: Selection, 1 to 20 November
The competition jury evaluates the submitted projects and selects the finalists. The organising committee will contact participants directly with the results.
Stage 3: Online final, 1 to 4 December
Finalists present and defend their projects online. The jury evaluates the presentations and selects the competition winners.
All students who submit a project will receive a certificate of participation. Winners will receive diplomas and prizes from the organisers and sponsors.
Who can participate?
Ecoview is open to school students aged 14 to 18 enrolled in general or extracurricular educational institutions.
Entries must be submitted individually. Team projects are not accepted.
Projects are assessed on factors including the relevance and environmental component of the research, use of remote sensing, methodology, visual materials and conclusions. During the final stage, the jury also considers the completeness and logic of the research presentation, the project defence and discussion.

Registration for the 2026 Ecoview competition is open until 31 October 2026.
Students interested in environmental research, geography, climate and Earth observation are encouraged to use the coming months to develop their project and explore how satellite data can support their research.
